Spring in Dunwoody

Wow. Can not believe it has been so long since my last post. I have been busy - which is a good thing. Between work and kids, it seems there has been hardly time to breathe. In regard to Real Estate, we have four of our Dunwoody listings under contract and closing within the next two weeks and several Buyers anxious to find the right home.

In regard to the kids, school has closed for the year, which means no more homework.

And Spring Baseball Season at Murphey Candler has finished. Here is where I’ll be the proud parent…our oldest son, Cullen, has just become a AAA World Series Champion. His team, The Cardinals, coached by Steve Ethridge and Jared Elliott, played 18 games in the regular season, with a record of 12 Wins, 5 Losses, and and 1 Tie…made it the playoffs…winning both games…taking them to the Murphey Candler Little League AAA World Series as the National League Champions. For the title, The Cardinals defeated The Athletics 6 to 2.

All the kids on the team had a great season with one thing being certain, beyond their athletic talent was their attitude. These 10 & 11 year old players were always supportive of one another and challenged each other to do their very best. The coaching staff inspired them, taught them with just the right level of toughness, and helped to strengthen their love of the game. It’s funny to look back at the beginning of the season - watching their first practice, when admittedly, I had my doubts. One comparison came to mind, The Bad News Bears. Shame on me and thank goodness I kept my thoughts to myself. As it turns out, the team just needed to shake off the winter rust, listen to their coaches, practice, and gel together as a team. And boy, was it a Joy to watch them. From the thrills of making a good play, or a good at bat, to the ball taking a bad hop or making an error, to the frustration of the ump making a bad call - oops, I mean a call not your favor - these are all life lessons - that’s why baseball is more than just a game. Baseball helps prepare one for all life’s lessons. Sometimes it’s not so much about what happens, it’s how one reacts to what’s happened.

Emotions run high in any competition, and these AAA Cardinals were able to stay focused on their goal. Yes, I am sure they all experienced moments of self doubt, nervousness, and angst. But that’s just it - moments of worry. They were able to overcome their fear, rather than becoming paralyzed by it. They persevered. They did their very best…a sweet victory they will remember their whole lives.

After the game, my son told me that he said to himself prior to the game, that he was going to do a great job pitching. He said he thought ‘I can do this’. At age 11, he was using affirmations to help him succeed. (I don’t think he actually knew what the official name of what he was doing is called.) But he did know that having a positive attitude is what it takes. How else could he have pitched the entire game, throwing 71 pitches when in all other previous games he pitched no more than 25. He was focused on the goal.
